How to String Fishing Line
- 1). Simplify the process by attaching the fishing reel you plan on spooling to a fishing rod.
- 2). Take off the piece of tape that holds the fishing line onto the spool, and then grab hold of the end of the line.
- 3). Insert the end of the fishing line into and through the tip of the fishing rod. Guide the line through each of the rod guides, which are circle-shaped objects that extend from the pole and guide the line from the tip of the rod to the reel.
- 4). Flip the bale of the reel upward, if you are spooling a spinning reel. If you are spooling a baitcast reel, insert the line through the metal or plastic line guide at the front of the reel. If you are spooling a spincast reel, turn the reel face counterclockwise to remove it, then put the line through the metal or plastic line guide at the front of the reel face.
- 5). Affix the line to the reel spool by wrapping it twice around the spool and then tying a knot so it lies flat and sits tight against the spool. If any extra line extends beyond the knot, cut it with a scissors. It is a good idea, though, to leave a small tag end, which will prevent the knot from falling apart.
- 6). Replace the reel face of the spincast reel and turn it clockwise to tighten it.
- 7). Spin the reel handle so the spool begins filling up with fishing line. Continue reeling until the line is slightly below the rim of the spool.
- 8). Snip with a scissors the line between the tip of the rod and the spool of line.
