- 1). Log in to your Windows XP computer as an administrator. Insert the Windows CD in your CD drive. Click "Exit" in the "Welcome to Microsoft Windows XP" menu when it appears.
- 2). Hold the "Windows" key while pressing the "r" key on the keyboard. Release all keys.
- 3). Type "sfc /scannow" in the "Open" field of the "Run" window. Click "OK." The verification window will close after the scan is finished.
