A nice size tank is best.
Your betta needs at least one gallon of water per fish, so know do not leave him in that vase or small glass he was in when you purchased him/her.
All those small vases and other glass decanter that are holding your betta when you purchase are just that pretty decorations, not the best place for betta's to live.
The water temperature should stay at 80 degrees Fahrenheit at all times.
The most important thing to remember is to keep the temperature constant.
You should not let the water drop below 69 degrees Fahrenheit at all, as it can cause problems with their immune system, which can cause them to be susceptible to many diseases.
Place the betta tank away from direct sunlight and drafts.
Both of these factors can change the temperature of the water.
You should remove at least ¼ of the water and replace it with fresh warm water at least twice per week but three times per week would be better.
The new water will need to be treated with a special water treatment to rid the water of chlorine before adding to the tank.
The new water should also be the same temperature as the water in the tank.
The betta tank should have a ventilated lid over the top so your betta fish do not jump from the tank.
The lid should ensure good air exchange Adding plants to the tank will improve the quality of the water as well as cover for the fish.
Betta fish are somewhat picky when it comes to food choices and if at all possible, they should be fed small worms, fresh meat based food, or frozen meat based food once per day.
This will also help keep the betta tank clean.
Never put two Betta males in the tank together.
The number one thing to remember is to keep your betta tank with clean water and a constant temperature so your fish will stay healthy and happy.
