Zebra Plant Wilted
- Lack of water is the most common problem that causes the zebra plant to wilt. These plants need moist, but not wet, soil all the time. Plants that are not watered regularly will wilt and, after constant neglect, the leaves will wilt and drop from the plant. Test the soil by inserting your finger into the soil about 1/4 inch. If the soil is slightly damp or dry, water the plant.
- Zebra plants need at least four hours of bright or direct sunlight daily to grow. Place plants 4 to 8 feet away from a window as long as the area is bright and gets four hours of brightness from the window. If the plant is placed in a dimly lit area, the plant will naturally look unhealthy and appear to have wilting leaves.
- Tropical plants such as the zebra plant need household temperatures of about 70 degrees Fahrenheit during the day but about 10 degrees cooler at night. Although the plant tolerates dry, hot air, it will take much less water to keep the plant from wilting when the temperatures are right.
- Keep the humidity around the zebra plant at about 40 to 80 percent. Place plant containers in a drainage tray with gravel so that the water run off after each watering sits in the tray and provides the necessary humidity around the plant. This will keep the plant healthy and help prevent a need for more water during times when the indoor climate is hot and dry.
- Feed the zebra plant with a well-balanced fertilizer diluted in half once a month. Keeping the soil rich in nutrients helps the plant absorb the water and nutrients needed to stay healthy and prevent wilting.
