Before starting out, it is important to understand that the kick-flip is somewhat of an Ollie variation.
So you will need to first position your feet as though you were doing a run of the mill Ollie.
Then place the ball of your front foot close to the center of the skateboard, and a little below its front bolts.
The next step in how to kick flip is to use your back foot to hit your skateboard's tail against the ground, as if you were doing an ollie.
However, the difference is in the movement of your front foot.
When doing a standard Ollie, you would drag your front foot forward.
But it is a different story when doing a kick-flip.
Drag your foot towards the side of the skateboard, and use a flicking movement.
In mastering how to kickflip, the key is to flick the skateboard as fast as possible.
The faster you flick the skateboard, the faster it will flip.
The key here is in your ankle muscle.
A crucial step while performing the kickflip is to jump as the board is flipping in the air.
You will want the board to keep rising as you perform the kick-flip.
So it is crucial to avoid pushing down on the board, as you jump into the air.
This will help you to master how to kick flip.
After the skateboard has completed the flip, you should then use your back foot to contact the board, typically the back foot is the first one to touch the board.
This will help you to gain control of the board.
The front foot then contacts the skateboard.
As you land the trick, ideally both of your feet should be positioned as close to the skateboard's bolts as possible.
After practicing enough you will be able to master the kick-flip.
