Types of Content to Include in Your Blog Content Strategy
Getting Started When the internet first started, it was all text.
But these days the internet is moving to be primarily visual - images and video.
This means that as bloggers we need to not only be great writers, but we need to have fairly decent photography skills as well as a be able to come across intelligently on video.
And don't forget audio - podcasting is becoming a BIG business.
Blog Posts Even though there is such a huge focus on video and audio on the internet, content will still always be king.
BUT...
people will become more and more reluctant to read your content.
What can you do? Write interesting articles with KILLER headlines.
Make your content easily scannable so people can get the gist quickly and see if they want to read it.
Images Yes, you need to be including at least one image in each of your posts...
but the wrong picture can actually have a negative impact.
Take the time to study other bloggers' posts and see what's working.
Using your cell phone for you photos is OK, but I highly recommend that you invest in a DSLR camera and a photography class as soon as you can.
This could really take your blog to the next level.
Video I've seen claims that YouTube is the #2 search engine in the world.
Google owns YouTube and if Google likes it - you need to too.
You need a YT channel and you need to be making videos.
You can make short videos that are a teaser for a craft or recipe on your blog.
You can do a video review of a product.
You can just do a screencast video where people don't even see your face, but watch your screen and what you are explaining.
And ideally, you should be doing a mix of all of these...
AND embedding these videos into your posts.
Google really likes it when you do that.
Audio Not sure if you've gotten on the podcasting bandwagon yet, but you should.
It's a great way to listen to your favorite bloggers and entrepreneurs.
It's also a great way for you to establish a rapport with your audience and establish your authority.
Plus, it's just plain fun! Your Content Plan Your blog content plan for your site should include all of these different types of content: text, images, video and audio.
Don't look at it as a chore, but a challenge and have fun being creative!
