How to Dress Warm When Working Outside in the Winter
- 1). If you are a woman, you might want to wear two, or even three, pairs of leggings under a pair of wool pants. Don’t be concerned if you look a pound heavier than you really are. Wool and fabrics such as silk and propylene will keep you warmer than other fabrics will. A man should wear thermal underwear under his pants.
- 2). Blouses and shirts that have sleeves that hug your wrists should be worn to keep in body heat. Wear three blouses or shirts for maximum warmth.
- 3). Wear heavy socks to keep your feet warm (two or three pairs). Wool socks are best. Cotton socks should be avoided. Wear boots that are insulated and waterproof.
- 4). Wear a down jacket if you have one. If not, you should buy one. A jacket or coat made of down will keep you warm in the coldest weather. The longer the jacket is, the warmer you’ll be.
- 5). Wear a pair of gloves underneath a pair of mittens. If don’t want to wear both, wear the mittens. They will keep your hands warmer than the gloves will.
- 6). You should wear a wool or fleece scarf around your neck to protect that area of your body. A scarf really comes in handy when the bitter wind starts to nip at your nose as you can cover your face with it for protection.
- 7). Last, wear a fur hat that goes over your ears as well as your head. Heat escapes from your head, so you want to make sure it’s covered.
