Getting Indian Moths Out of Your House

    • 1). Remove the source of the infestation to eliminate most moths. Clean your pantry of all open or loosely packaged grain items, boxes of cereal, dried fruit, pet food, or nuts and seeds. Wipe down your pantry shelves with all-purpose cleaner and paper towels.

    • 2). Store unopened food items in sealable plastic containers to prevent future infestation. If an item can be safely refrigerated, such as a bag of dried fruit or container of seeds, do so to protect it from moths.

    • 3). Install a moth pheromone trap in your kitchen. Pheromone traps are baited with the same chemical secreted by female Indian moths to attract male mates. In addition to revealing places of infestation, the trap will help capture most interior moths.

    • 4). Place mothballs in the far corners of your pantry to repel most Indian moths. Keep the balls on shelves that are above or below your sealable food storage containers to avoid contamination.

    • 5). Eliminate Indian moths as you find them. Indian moths fly at a relatively slow pace, so catching them with a small net and releasing them outdoors or smacking them with a fly swatter is possible.
