What Could Be "Grander?"
They have arrived.
Put up the valuables and the breakables, remove all sharp objects.
The grandchildren have arrived.
They are so happy to be at Grandma and Grandpas.
We enjoy them and are thankful we were able to see them in our lifetime.
It is such a joy to spoil the little ones with gifts, tell them stories, and just hug them and tell them how much they are loved.
Grandchildren take a lot of energy and care on our part as we are concerned for their safety while they are in our care.
Exhaustion comes easily and after having them for a while we start to fizzle out and our thought is I wish I could just lay down and relax without keeping one eye open to watch over them.
Then the end of the day comes when they go home and we can breath easier and relax.
Before you know it we are asking our children when the grandchildren will be coming again.
My husband and I anticipate and prepare for their arrival, child proofing the house once again.
We go shopping and get them the treats they like, which you know they are forbidden to have at home.
Hence, being a grandparent has its perks.
There might be games they like to play and even though you are not up to it, you do your best to lose so they can get excited with their winnings.
You make sure you give them all the attention while they are in your care and half-way through the day your patience starts to dwindle and you find it hard to keep up with them.
So much energy, so little time.
We are fortunate to be able to do this and that our grandsons live close by.
Grandparents whose grandchildren live in another state or country must find it hard especially around the holidays.
They have to rely on a phone call or email to find out what they have been up to.
However, no matter how you get together with your grandchildren every minute counts.
I remember my grandmothers and grandfathers like it was yesterday.
Although they were originally from Italy and we did not understand a lot of what they were saying, we knew that there was love and warmth bountiful whenever we went to their homes.
Aside from being a parent, being a grandparent is the best.
So roll up those rugs, get rid of those breakables and enjoy them.
They grow up so fast!
