Pirate Party Food Idea
- Serve each guest his very own pirate ship ready to set sail. Place a hot dog in a bun on the center of each plate. Cut out a 4-by-3-inch rectangle of paper. Write the guest's name on the paper or stamp with a skull and crossbones. Cut a wooden skewer in half. Poke the skewer through the bottom center of the rectangle and up through the top center to make a sail. Stick an upside down gum drop on top the skewer for the crow's nest. Surround with fish-shaped crackers to continue the impression of the hot dog at sea.
- Make swashbuckling snacks for the pirates to sample. Purchase sword-shaped cocktail picks, available at most grocery stores. Thread grapes, cheese or other sliced fruit onto each sword.
Cut celery into 3-inch lengths. Smear with peanut butter. Thread a toothpick through a 1- to 2-inch square of paper to make a sail and stick in the center of the celery. Place a few raisins along the length to make the pirates. - Cut a large watermelon in half. Scoop out the fruit, leaving the rind in tact. Fill the rind with small or cubed fruits. Place paper sails on wooden skewers and space 2 to 3 sails in the rind boat.
Cut cucumbers in half lengthwise and scoop out the the seeds. Place 4 to 5 round chicken nuggets in each half. Cut fruit leather into squares and thread onto pretzel sticks to make the sails. Stick into the chicken nuggets so the sails stand up.
