How to Convert an Audiobook to MP3 Format
- 1). Download a media converter. There are a variety of media converters that support MP3 and other audio formats--two popular options are MediaCoder and Format Factory. Both of these can be downloaded for free directly from their respective homepages (mediacoderhq.com and formatoz.com).
- 2). Open your browser's download folder, and run the media converter's installation file. Follow the onscreen instructions to install the software onto your computer. Format Factory actually comes as a zip file, so you will need to unzip it before you can run its installation file--simply right-click the zip file and select "Extract All."
- 3). Open your media converter, then access its settings to set the output file format and folder. To do this in MediaCoder, click the "Audio" tab at the bottom left to change the output format to MP3, then set the output folder by typing your desired path into the text box at the top right, or by clicking the "..." button to browse for it. In Format Factory, expand the "Audio" pane on the left, then click the "All to MP3" button to bring up a conversion window. Click the "Browse" button next to the output folder path to browse for your desired path.
- 4). Add the audiobook files to the conversion project, then begin converting them. In MediaCoder, click the "Add" button--located at the far left--to browse for the files, then click "Start" to begin converting the audiobook. In Format Factory, click "Add File" at the top right of the "All to MP3" window to browse for the files, then click "OK" to close the "All to MP3" window. Click "Start" in the main window to begin converting the audiobook.
- 5). When the conversion is complete, open the output folder to gain access to the audio book in MP3 format.
