Army Transportation Officer Training
- The first step on the road to becoming a transportation officer is to first become an Army officer. There are three major major ways to earn your commission. The first is by graduating from the United States Military Academy, a four-year military service academy. The second source is through the Reserve Officer Training Program (ROTC) at your college or university. The third and largest source of officers for the Army is Officer Candidate School (OCS). All three of these programs provide the foundational training that turns civilians into officers.
- TBOLC takes place at Fort Eustis, Virginia and is the first transportation class attended by new lieutenants. Students learn the basic principles of logistics and transportation technology. They learn how to use and service trucks, loaders and logistical tracking software. They are also taught how to motivate and supervise soldiers in transportation units. Finally, they learn tactical skills like leading vehicle convoys and erecting defensive positions. By the end of this course, graduates will be ready to assume positions as platoon leaders in transportation units.
- This course is best described as a kind of basic training for officers. They will review the basic tasks required of all soldiers, officer and enlisted. These "soldierization tasks" include marksmanship, day and night land navigation, Army combatives, small unit tactics, and sexual harassment prevention. The purpose of BOLC B is to ensure that officers are proficient in all the skills that will be required of the enlisted soldiers they lead in the future.
- Officers who are promoted to the rank of captain (O-3) are eligible to attend the Transportation Captain Career Course (T-CCC). T-CCC trains new captains to function as members of a battalion or brigade staff. There, their job will be to develop unit transportation plans and training doctrine. Topics covered in T-CCC include planning, operations and force projection. The course is broken into four phases and lasts eight weeks.
- The Combined Logistics Captains Career Course (CLC3) is similar to the T-CCC in that it prepares captains for staff positions. However, the focus in CLC3 includes not only transportation topics but also covers issues related to ordnance, maintenance, and contracting. Graduates of CLC3 are reclassified as logistics officers.
