  Tucked into the northwest corner of Colorado, Winter Park is popular vacation destination for those who love winter sports such as skiing, sledding and snowshoeing. Located about an hour and a half from Denver, this small town is also near Fraser, Granby, Tabernash and the Rocky Mountain National Park. For families looking to stay in cabins near ski routes and mountain trails, Winter Park and its surrounding area offer a wide range of accommodations.
  
  

Bear Claw Cabin

• Named for the view of the ski runs from the cabin, this two-bedroom vacation rental sleeps six guests. In addition to high-speed Internet, a washer/dryer, gas fireplace, an outdoor hot tub, and a kitchen stocked with supplies, the cabin also boasts a game room with a professional ping-pong table. The dog-friendly cabin is on the shuttle route to the local ski resorts; the shuttle stops right outside the door.
  
  

Devils Thumb Ranch

• Located 15 minutes south of Winter Park, Devils Thumb Ranch offers a lodge, bunkhouse and cabins; some of them dog friendly. Each of the lodge's 16 cabins has one to four bedrooms and is uniquely furnished. All the cabins feature kitchen necessities, fireplaces, heated floors and hair dryers. Although the cabins boast high-speed Internet access, none have televisions.
  
  

Snow Mountain Ranch

• One of YMCA of the Rockies' two facilities, Snow Mountain Ranch offers a variety of affordable accommodations, including family cabins with two to five bedrooms. All cabins have a fireplace and are fully furnished down to kitchen necessities, coffee makers, and linens and towels. The ranch's on-site summer activities include horseback riding, hiking, biking, canoeing and a zip line. On-site winter activities include cross-country skiing, sledding and snowshoeing.
  
  

Winter Park Lodging Company

• The Winter Park Lodging Company specializes in vacation rentals in and around the city. Its private family cabins are in secluded neighborhoods surrounded by forests. Its Moose Crossing Cabin is a popular rental, with frequent moose and other wildlife sightings. Each cabin features contemporary furnishings, appliances and comforts, such as hot tubs, fireplaces and garages. Many of the cabins are located minutes away from ski slops and trails for snowshoeing, hiking and biking.
