How to Make an Animated GIF From Clip Art

    Flash

    • 1). Create a new document in Flash. Select "File," "Import" and "Import to Library" from the menu. Double-click the clip art you want to animate. It imports into the Library.

    • 2). Select "Window" and "Library" from the menu to open the "Library" panel.

    • 3). Drag the clip art from the "Library" panel onto the Stage (canvas). A keyframe is automatically created for the clip art.

    • 4). Select "Insert," "Timeline" and "Keyframe" from the menu or press "F6" to create a keyframe. Move the clip art where you want it to appear. Repeat this step to insert additional frames into the animation.

    • 5). Click "File" and "Save" in the menu to save your work. Name your file in the "Save As" dialog box and press "Save."

    • 6). Select "File" and "Publish Settings" from the menu to turn the file into an animated GIF. The "Publish Settings" dialog box appears.

    • 7). Check "GIF Image" under the "Formats" tab. Select the "GIF" tab and set "Playback" to "Animated." Press the "Publish" button and click "OK."

    Photoshop

    • 1). Open the clip art you want to animate in Photoshop and go to the "Layers" palette.

    • 2). Drag the layer containing the clip art into the "Create a new layer" button to duplicate it. Each layer will hold the different scenes or movement within the application.

    • 3). Pick the "Move" tool in the toolbox and drag the clip art where you want it to appear in the animation.

    • 4). Repeat steps two and three to add more frames to the animation and move them to the correct places in the animation.

    • 5). Select "Window" and "Animation" from the menu. The "Animation" window opens and the first frame is filled.

    • 6). Go to the "Layers" panel to customize which layer appears on each frame. To hide a layer from the frame, select the layer you want to hide and click the eye icon. To display a layer, make the eye icon visible on the layer you want to show.

    • 7). Go to the "Animation" window and expand the arrow on the top right corner of the window. Select "New Frame" from the drop-down list. Repeat previous step to select the layer you want to include in the selected frame for the animation.

    • 8). Repeat previous step to add more frames and scenes to the animation.

    • 9). Customize your animation's timing. To let the animation play forever, leave "Forever" untouched at the bottom of the "Animation" window. To modify it, click "Forever" to expand it and select "Once" or "Other." Click "0 sec" at the bottom of each frame you want to modify. Set the time to the number of seconds you want the frame to play.

      Select "File" and "Save for Web & Devices" to open its dialog box. Choose "GIF" for "Preset" and click "Save."

    Gickr

    • 1). Go to the Gickr website to create an animated GIF.

    • 2). Click the "Browse" button. You are directed to the files on your computer. Double-click the clip art you want to upload and animate. You'll need to upload at least two files for the animation. To upload additional files, repeat this step.

    • 3). Customize the size and speed of your animation. Click "Continue" at the bottom of the box. Your animation is generated and plays on screen.

    • 4). Click the "Download" link and save the animation to your computer.
