Rental Truck Regulations for Travel
- Some states require all trucks, regardless of the type, to stop at weigh-in stations and follow the regulations for speed limits and lane restrictions. Federal Trucking Regulations list other types of truck regulations that might also apply to rental trucks.
- Any size rental truck that is carrying more than 10,000 pounds are required to stop at weigh-in stations. Trucks loaded with a lot of cargo might not be inspected at weigh-in stations, but drivers could be pulled over by state police or at state border checkpoints to have their goods checked.
- To ensure rental truck drivers abide by all travel regulations, they should consider stopping at all weigh-in stations in every state or risk potential fines. Also, to avoid any other fines, follow the speed limits and lane restrictions that apply to trucks even if they might not apply to rental trucks.
