There are different types of acne, and each can leave different types of scars, defined by tissue response to inflammation.
They are scars caused by tissue formation, and scars caused by loss of tissue.
The most common type is Acne Vulgaris which is also known as Acne Simplex.
Other types of Acne include Acne Cosmetica, Acne Excriee, Cystic Acne and Occupational Acne.
Acne vulgaris is an inflammatory disease of the skin, caused by changes in the pilosebaceous units (skin structures consisting of a hair follicle and its associated sebaceous gland).
Acne lesions are commonly referred to as pimples, spots, plukes or zits.
This type of acne is common in youth, appearing from those range from 12 to 20 years olds and lasting from 5 to 10 years if untreated.
Acne cosmetica refers to acne caused by the use of cosmetics.
The mechanism was presumably a chemically induced plugging of the pilosebaceous orifice.
This was a significant problem for dermatologists, but with the improved formulations produced by cosmetic chemists over the past thirty years, this is now a relatively rare.
Acne Excoriee is usually found in young girls, beginning in adolescence years.
Girls may find pimples and start scratching at it viciously.
The skin got damaged by the fingernails and is not able to heal due to the persistent scratching, which leaves a broad, shallow scars.
Cystic acne is one of the most severe forms of acne.
Nodules form under the skin, then later harden into painful cysts.
This type of acne requires medical attention, and usually persists for long period of times, often weeks or even months.
Occupational acne is a localized form of acne caused by the exposure of the skin to chemicals and irritant substances found in the workplace.
Occupational acne has fallen in recent years due to better Health and Safety legislations and improved industrial working practices.
Understanding the key aspects of what acne is and their causes, will place acne sufferers to more complex issues relating to acne care and to make important decisions about acne treatments.
