Publish Your Book

If you have tried to get a traditional publisher to publish your book and haven't had any luck, you may want to consider publishing it yourself.
In the past this option was very expensive and time consuming.
But now you can quickly and inexpensively publish your own book.
Here is a quick look at how to do this yourself.
The old way of publishing your own book involved finding a printer and placing a minimum order, usually at least 500 books.
This was not only expensive; it also forced you to figure out what to do with all of the books until you could sell them.
Now you can use print on demand (often called POD) publishing.
What POD does is print only as many copies of the book are needed at one time.
The files are kept on computer and the single books and covers are printed one at a time.
Then they are assembled, usually by hot gluing the covers and pages at the spine.
This way you don't have a minimum order and you don't have to store hundreds of books.
The quality of POD publishing has been getting better and better over the last few years to the point that you usually can't tell the difference between a traditionally printed book and a print on demand book.
Most print on demand publishers also have a sales page online where anyone can order your books.
Prices for print on demand publishers' range from no up front cost to thousands of dollars, so you need to do your homework and see which company offers you the best deal and opportunity.
Understand that sometimes the no up front cost option will force you to either pay more per book or give up other options you may like to have.
However, just because a POD company charges a lot up front it does not mean they offer the best back end services either.
If you want to publish your own book or even if you just have a small project that would be best done in book form, I strongly suggest using print on demand technology.
You will also have the added benefit of being able to take your book at a later date to a traditional publisher if you sell enough of your book to make them take notice.
This is because you can retain all rights to your work by using most POD publishers.
(Make sure to read the contract before signing to make sure you keep all rights to your work.
