- 1). Start VLC. Click "Media," then "Open File" or "Open Disc" if you're playing a DVD.
- 2). Open the DVD or select a letterboxed video file. Click "Open."
- 3). Double-click the video to enter fullscreen mode. Right-click the video, then move the mouse over "Video," then "Crop."
- 4). Click "4:3" if your monitor is square-shaped. Click "16:9" if your monitor is widescreen. If you still see black bars at the top and bottom of your widescreen monitor, click "16:10."
