Their Opinions Matter

• Children accustomed to having their views dismissed by adults and authority figures will learn to be dependent on others. Even if you have already made a decision for your child, listen to her views on the subject. Discuss them with her and let her know that her opinion is valid. Let her know that her views are respected and valued. If the subject is not crucial, let yourself be swayed slightly or compromise with her. Make a habit of consulting and listening to your children and they'll learn to form opinions on their own without being prompted.
