Snoring - How to Prevent Your Snoring Problem When Everything Else Has Failed

103 10
Are you aware of the seriousness of snoring? Snoring can actually cut off oxygen that flows to the brain.
The result can be serious health problems such as type II diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke and heart disease, and sleep apnea and even premature death.
Of course, every snorer is not affected in this manner, but how do you know if you are one who is? Have you tried all of the over the counter stop snoring methods? Have you dealt with your weight, since being overweight is a good indication of why someone might snore.
Have you stopped your smoking as well as your intake of alcohol? Do you sleep on your side? Have you tried all of these things but yet you are still snoring? It may be time to admit that you have a serious snoring problem and consult your doctor.
He may recommend that you have one of the following surgeries: The Pillar Procedure When it comes to snoring, the soft palate in your mouth is usually the cause.
The soft palate can bump into the uvula, which causes the sound of snoring.
This soft palate can be stiffened by using the Pillar Procedure.
This is relatively painless and is done quickly in a doctor's office using local anesthesia.
With the Pillar Procedure, implants are placed into the soft palate.
These are about 18 mm long and 2 mm in diameter.
Over time, these implants will help to stiffen the soft palate by adding structural support.
The soft palate will no longer vibrate while you are sleeping, thus eliminating your snoring problem.
Other Surgery The most common surgery used to eliminate snoring is called Cautery Assisted Uvulapalatoplasty.
This is considered to be very effective in solving your snoring problem.
Most patients report very little pain after the surgery.
They also reported very good results.
Other types of surgery are out there, but most are not as effective as this cauterization.
The other surgeries often prevented snoring on only a temporary basis; snoring often returned within a year of two.
If you really cannot cure your snoring yourself with all of the other advice out there, then it is time to see your doctor.
He may suggest some other, less intrusive, methods and may even send you to a sleep study program.
Participating in this will give your doctor a better understanding of how to treat your snoring problem.
