How to Fish With Bait Feeder Reels
- 1). Attach a live-bait rig to the end of the fishing line. A basic live-bait rig consists of -- in order -- a hook, 24- to 36-inch leader, swivel and sliding sinker. Attach a piece of live bait to the hook.
- 2). Troll or drift through likely fish-holding areas, like along drop-offs and weed edges. Move slowly enough that your live-bait rig maintains contact with the bottom.
- 3). Feel for a bite from a fish. A bite will feel like a "tap tap" or just a heavy sensation. As soon as you feel a bite, flip the baitfeeder lever on the back of the reel.
- 4). Wait 20 to 30 seconds, then turn the reel handle slightly. If you feel a fish, set the hook with a sweeping motion. If you don't feel a fish, reel up to see if you still have your bait.
