Have you ever wondered what it was like to get inside the psyche and mind of someone working in the sex business? Prostitution is seen as exploitive from almost every viewpoint, although a new television series Secret Diary of a Call Girl goes into the world of a call girl to show that while the industry of prostitution may be full of exploited young women and hideously corrupt men, there also exists another aspect which Secret Diary of a Call Girl examines.

Taken from the bestselling novel in England, The Intimate Adventures of a London Call Girl by Belle de Jour, the premier entertainment television channel Showtime has transformed the novel into an original series Secret Life of a Call Girl about the daily adventures of a high end London Prostitute. The television series is created by Lucy Prebble the author of The Sugar Syndrome and ENRON, as it has humorous sexual tone compared to another famous original television series Sex and the City.

Secret Life of a Call Girl looks into the life of Hannah Baxter or Belle as she is called by her clients. Belle is a 27-year-old living in London working for the last few years as a high end escort, yet unlike the stereotypical image of a prostitute, Belle is an independent, strong, elegant and educated woman who has to struggle with the dangerous and risky nature of her work while also trying to stay connected to her friends, family and potential love interests. The plot of each episode unfurls as Belle is caught up between maintaining a normal life surrounded by such an abnormal profession.

While Belle de Jour tries to separate her work life from her personal life, the television series does an interesting job of balancing both comedy and drama. Critics have applauded the drama for its storyline but also for the main actress playing Belle (Bille Piper). By giving a convincing performance she gives the viewer a realistic look into this interesting portrayal on prostitution.

Yet while the show has been well received by many television critics, it has also received harsh criticism for its content and message. Most criticisms say that the television series glamorizes and misrepresents prostitution; however the protagonist of the series Belle constantly reminds viewers that her profession is her own career choice because she likes both sex and money. Other critics say that it could inspire other young women to become prostitutes. However, if there is any message to the television show it is that is shows that middle-class, educated women do take part in prostitution.

So if you want to be able to judge the show for yourself you first need to make sure you have Showtime through a good service provider. Today satellite TV has been the most hi-tech and dependable as it offers great HD programming for all high definition entertainment systems. Satellite TV is also more reliable than cable in that there are fewer variables regarding shortages or cable signal problems. So tune into the next season of Secret Diary of a Call Girl with a good service provider.
