With so many people left jobless by the current financial meltdown, it comes as no surprise that there have been an increase in entrepreneurs. The funny thing is, most of these entrepreneurs are making money out of what used to be just a hobby.

One such case is that of t-shirt design. In the past, shirt designs have been mainly for personal use only. There are some who do it as an extra source of income but few are really into it full-time. Nowadays, however, you only need to enter the words “urban shirt” in the various search engines to see how many online shops are vying for a prospective clients’ attention. This does not, however, mean that the supply is greater than the demand for no matter how many urban shirt sellers are there, they are still not enough to cater to today’s your ever volatile sense of fashion.

Urban wear is basically about self-expression, individualism and a stand against norms. If you would like to set up your own t-shirt design business, you first have to understand what urban clothing is all about. Keep in mind that, as much as urban wear is about making a stand, it is also about blending in with people belonging to your group.

As a start-up urban wear clothing seller, you would need to know the latest designs when it comes to pants and shirts. You have to decide early on whether you would be doing your own design or you would be selling the designs of other people as an affiliate partner. You also have the option of commissioning someone to do the design for you. Since you are just starting out, you can settle first to doing you prints on shirt blanks before moving on to cut-and-sew. By doing so, you are able to cut on your costs.

If you would like a third-party to do the printing on your urban wear clothing for you, make sure that you go for someone who has already done t-shirt printing before. This would lessen the probability that your design would be off-center or that it would get smudged.

Lastly, make sure that you get noticed by putting up your own site. This does not have to be a grad, full-fledged website. A simple blog that allows you to post hundreds of pictures of your urban streetwear clothing line would do. Having a site will allow you to feature your work without having to print all of them on an actual shirt.
