Death is a part of life that is inevitable.
However, this fact doesn't seem to matter.
When you care about someone and they die it is often a loss that is painful and might take a lot of time for you to move on and understand.
Each person handles a loved one dying in a way that is different.
Most will find that they experience the feeling of loss and they will need time for the mourning of the person that has died.
When someone that you love dies there are a few different stages that are experienced.
Some of the words that are associated most commonly with a loved one dying are as follows.
  • Loss: This is having someone that you cherished and loved disappear.
  • Grief: This is an experience that is internal.
    It is normally in the form of distress or agony over the loss.
  • Mourning: This is an expression that is external or outward and it is the expression of grieving.
  • Bereavement: This is what is referred to when you experience the death of a loved one.
Not only is there an absence that is permanent when someone you love dies but there are many different things that are affected when this happens.
Many times you will find that the death of a loved one will bring the family together more closely.
If there were disagreements, squabbles, or arguments these might be pushed to the side and even forgotten when the family is faced with loss.
Maintaining relationship will become appreciated more.
However, you should know that death in some cases is detrimental to a family and its relationships.
If a child is faced with the loss of their parent they might have a relationship with the other parent that is still living that deteriorates.
They may feel unhappy or upset if the other parent tries to grieve independently.
Marriages also can be strained or even stop functioning if faced with a death in the family.
Many couples mourn and grieve in different ways and this can lead to frustration.
Showing your grief outwardly or mourning might occur in many different ways.
Many times mourning is done with a behavior that is subdued.
This is normally in a demeanor that is respectful and quiet.
Some however will stop going to social events.
Some will begin to wear clothing that is dark for symbolism of their grief.
This is done more commonly when a funeral is attended or if someone is widowed.
