Open the Microsoft Money Account List
Free Microsoft Money Sunset Deluxe is now available, and all versions of this personal finance software no longer support Internet based services.
To get started with setting up an account in Microsoft Money:
Open the account list by clicking on Account List, which is the second option in the vertical pane on your left, or click on the Bank tab at the top to bring up the account list.
Click on Add a new account.
In the left pane under Common Tasks in Microsoft Money, your see a number of actions you can take to work with accounts. Click on Add a new account.
Choose the Account Type in Microsoft Money
You will need to know what type of account you want to set up. This will be easy to determine most of the time. Checking and savings accounts fall under Banking and credit cards are self explanatory. Mutual funds, IRAs and brokerage accounts fall under Investments. Use the Other account type to track cash, track the value of and equity in your home, or for any other financial accounts that don't fall into the other categories.
Choose the account type in Microsoft Money:
Microsoft no longer supports or develops Microsoft Money (see announcement) and offers Microsoft Money Sunset Deluxe free, but with no Internet-based features. This means that Money can no longer access information from the Internet, and the feature on this page is no longer supported. Please move forward to the next page in this tutorial.
After you select the type of account you want to set up and click Next, Microsoft Money Plus Sunset Deluxe will attempt to go online to download banks and brokerages.
You can ignore this since the feature that allowed for looking up and choosing financial institutions no longer works (remember that Microsoft has made the software available "as is" after discontinuing development.
To set up an account, you need to ignore the financial instituion download and instead click on the small 'My bank or brokerage isn't listed' link on the lower left of the Select a Bank or Brokerage box. If you see a message that says the financial institution list is temporarily unavailable, ignore it because the feature is truly disabled completely.
From your financial institution's account statement, enter the balance of cash and investments currently in the account as prompted by Microsoft Money. Click ‘Finish’ and your account is set up.
When you are ready to enter transactions in Microsoft Money Sunset Deluxe, choose the account by clicking on it in the account bar located on the left side of the Home Page or the account list and enter transactions in the register.
