    • 1). Clean your installation CD by gently wiping the silver side of the disc with a clean, lint-free cloth. Make sure that you wipe from the center of the disc to the outer edge. Examine the disc to make sure there are no scratches or smudges on it.

    • 2). Perform a clean boot for your computer by selecting the "Run" option in your "Start" menu and typing "msconfig" (without quotes) into the "Run" window. Click the selective startup option and check the "SYSTEM.INI" box, the "WIN.INI" box, the "Load Startup Items" box and the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box. Select the "Disable All" option, and then click "OK" to restart the computer. Try to install the program again.

    • 3). Map a drive to your installation point by selecting "My Computer" option in your "Star" menu. Select the "Tools" option and select the "Map Network Drive" option. Select the drive and the folder that your Office 2000 installation program is on. This option is only useful if you have access to a network drive with the installation program on it.

    • 4). Troubleshoot your CD-ROM drive by consulting the manual that came with your drive. Only pursue this option when you have checked the disc and computer fully and you are still getting the same error. Since there is no problem with the disc or computer, the only problem remains with the CD-ROM drive.
