Hawaiian Certificate of Live Birth Requirements

104 2

    Eligibility

    • In order to get a copy of somebody's Hawaiian certificate of live birth, you will first have to establish your right to obtain the document by proving that you have a "direct and tangible interest in the record." If you are applying for your own birth certificate, there is an obvious interest. Otherwise, you could be a spouse or parent of the person whose birth certificate you are requesting. Direct descendants of a person are also eligible, as are those who share a common ancestor with the registrant, for instance, a sibling. There are categories of people, such as someone whose right to get a copy of the certificate has been established by a court, that the state of Hawaii sees as eligible.

    Application

    • If you are eligible to apply for a Hawaii certificate of live birth, you must first put in an application for it in writing, along with the necessary fees. You could apply through the Internet, in person or by mail. If you are applying in person, you will have to take appropriate identification with you, such as a state-issued driver's license.

    Required Information

    • Your application must provide the information the state needs to establish your eligibility to get the birth certificate, and also to locate the document. This includes information such as the date of birth and the full name of the father and full maiden name of the mother of the person whose birth certificate you are requesting. The state of Hawaii generally provides copies of birth certificates about 10 working days after you put in an in-person request, or two to three weeks after receipt of an application by mail.
