Don"t Be a Halloweenie
Halloweenie - n.
- One who does not embrace the holiday of Halloween ex.
one who does not dress up, decorate, give out candy, etc.
One who does not participate in Halloween activities.
Now that we have gotten the definition of Halloweenie out of the way, you may be asking "Jessica, how do we make sure we are not a Halloweenie ourselves?" Well never fear, for I have come up with several ways to make sure that your next Halloween is Halloweenie proof! Be A Good gHost - Nothing says "I am not a Halloweenie" more than throwing a great party.
Having a Halloween bash is not as difficult as it sounds, as this holiday is more than anything just about dressing up in funny costumes that you all can have a laugh at and enjoy.
To start off your festivities, the perfect Halloween invitation is a must.
As you browse the Halloween invitations, you may want to keep in mind if you are having a party with a theme, such as a couples Halloween theme, a ghost and goblin theme, etc.
Another fun theme for the competitive type is a Most Creative Costume Contest.
This theme really gets people's creative juices flowing, as well as resulting in more than a few surprisingly funny costumes! Once a theme is picked out, fun food can be served.
My favorite is pizza with the toppings arranged to look like a scary face, which is both fun to make a tasty treat.
The same can be done for cupcake toppings and cookies.
One of my co-workers loves to make a fun and yummy drink called Toxic Punch, which is Mountain Dew, pineapple juice, and a flavor of sherbet all mixed together.
Then she added Latex gloves filled with a dark liquid, like grape juice, that was frozen for a period of time for an added creepiness factor.
Halloween is a chance for you to let your culinary creativeness go wild! You Got The Look- One of the most important steps you can take to avoid Halloweenieness is to have a fun costume.
You don't get credit for any costume though.
Girls, I think at least once in our lives we have dressed up as a princess or a fairy before, (in my case, it was 7 years in a row when I was little, and I only stopped when I dropped my princess hat in the mud.
That's right, I am a reformed Halloweenie.
) So challenge yourself to think of something more creative.
Homemade Halloween costumes can be the most cost effective, and also the most fun to make and wear.
(And don't worry if you have never made a costume before, as badly made costumes count for the comedic effect.
) If you are in need of ideas for your costume, just looking up Halloween costumes on the internet will be sure to provide thousands of ideas and maybe even directions, as some people are very passionate about Halloween costumes! My favorites are dressing up as the Joker (face paint can be a lot of fun), Pee Wee Herman, and for the whole family, The Flintstones.
Each of these costumes is fun, creative and pretty simple to make with the clothes that you already probably own.
Don't Keep It All In- Outdoor decor is one of the most effect ways to proudly proclaim to local trick-or-treaters and neighbors that you are NOT a Halloweenie.
A simple plain pumpkin carelessly thrown next to the front door just will not do.
I won't even go into if you choose not pass out candy, because I think we all know what that means.
Decorating your house for Halloween does not mean that you have to spend hundreds of dollars on a 7ft tall blow up pumpkin.
I remember when I was little, my grandpa used to bring me to a pumpkin patch to pick out a pumpkin to carve.
Once we got home, we removed the seeds, which my grandma would clean off and cook so that we can eat them later, and we would carve away! In this way, decorating for Halloween can be a fun time to spend with your family or friends.
You can add spider webs to your house by stretching out cotton balls to create a web effect.
Also, a fun and creative (and maybe a little gruesome) way to proudly display your Halloween festiveness is to transform your front yard into a little graveyard.
You can have cardboard gravestones and have fun writing funny epitaphs on them.
Also, in front of one of the graves, for an extra shot of unHalloweenieness, you can have a fake person coming out of one of the graves by having a pole with a clothes hanger attached stuck in the ground, with clothes placed on the hanger.
