Make Yourself Happy Several Times Throughout The Day
In life, it's the small things that matter. While we hear this all the time, it's not always this easy. I used to think well If I can just get this one big contract, or if I can just meet one big person, i've done it. But the fact of the matter is those big events were few and far between. So I changed my philosophy a bit and focused on small successes to highlight my day. Here are a few that I experienced each day/week that has made me happy. I hope you can apply them to your everyday life.
1. Reading
Everyday I wake up I read recode, techmeme, and techcrunch and I look at the trending topics to get an idea of what is going down in my industry. In addition to this throughout the day, I also read about 5-10 different blogs to gain more knowledge about what is working for others. After reading, I then apply what I have learned and use trail and error to be sure what they have said actually works.
2. Try New Things
Doing things to get out of your comfort zone really allows you to test yourself. For me, it's taking a simple selfie during a speech. I hold myself accountable and test my courage by essentially embarrassing myself on stage. It's ok, because it shows confidence and that I am in control.

3. Be Physically and Mentally Fit
I try to go to the gym five days a week for about an hour or so. This is the most important part of my day because it allows me to catch up on a quick conference call, listen to voicemails, music, and most importantly, sweat! To me the gym is my place to zen out. No matter what that zen looks like to you, find a place to do that. It could be a walk to the park or playtime with your dog, but the point is you need it!
4. Spend Less Time Thinking
Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg wore/wear the same clothes everyday, because they don't want to think about what to wear. They have made it easier on their schedule. For myself, every Sunday I take the whole day and dedicate it to cooking my meals. Precooking my meals allows me to know EXACTLY what to grab from the refrigerator so I don't waste any time from my busy day to think about what I'm having for lunch. I just throw it in the microwave and boom! Productivity has now reached its maximum.
5. Have a Hobby
Hobbies are so important because we can't always be working, no matter how tempting it may be. For me it's trying different beers abd going to new breweries and restaurants. On the weekends I use this to get away because I love researching different places to grab a beer. Explore the city you live in, you never know what you will find.
6. Start Journaling
The most important aspect of my day is to reflect what has happened. I downloaded an app called Day One and I strongly encourage you to download it as well. You set a timer and it prompts you at that exact time every day to write. Write in it everyday! Tell the journal what happened so when success happens, you know exactly where you came from and how you achieved excellence.
