Three Things Novice Bettors Should Look for in a Horse Racing Guide

If you're an aspiring bettor but do not know much about how to go about betting at the racetracks, then chances are you are just simply relying on gut feel for your bets.
While there is nothing wrong with using what your instincts tell you, the truth of the matter is, horse betting has evolved into something more scientific.
Now, statistics play an important role in determining who the winner is going to be.
Of course, there will always be some lucky, previously unknown equine with a come-from-behind victory, but for the most part, it is the horse who has the most wins or the jockey or trainer who has trained horses who have the most wins, who will always end up being the winner in a particular race.
So aside from using your gut feel, where and how do you get this kind of scientific information about horse betting? If you've been in the race tracks often enough, you'll find that they have daily racing guides or forms.
Here, they'll list information about the horses who are going to slug it out for that particular day.
First off, find information regarding the jockeys or trainers.
You'll usually know who the best are if their names are listed in the "top trainers" or "top jockeys" section of the guide.
Select an equine that came under the "tutelage" of a winning trainer and who is going to be mounted by an equally capable jockey.
After choosing the people behind the horse, it's time to choose from the horses themselves.
Beside the horses' names are numbers.
If you find quite a number of 1s or 2s or even 3s in its last five races, then that particular horse has consistently placed in the top three in every race it has participated in.
Your horse stands a good chance of doing the same thing in this particular race-- unless, of course, it is running on an injury that is not obvious on paper.
These are the simplest methods of looking at racing guide and getting "scientific" in your method of choosing winning horses.
There is more information to be gleaned from the racing forms and as you grow more sophisticated in your betting, you will also get to use them in choosing your winning bets.
But as a novice, these are the most important parts that you need to know.
Happy betting!
