How to Compare Car Insurance for Young Drivers

104 9
    • 1). Look at discounts offered to young drivers. Discounts often include lowered premiums for good grades in school and taking driving courses. Every insurance company is different and some insurance companies will have plenty of discounts for young drivers, while others offer very few young driver discounts.

    • 2). Obtain and compare quoted costs. Request quotes either through the car insurance website or over the phone. Include all of the information, including the driver's age, the type of car and discount information such as grades in school. Companies often provide quotes within a few minutes of your request.

    • 3). Look at the coverage available for the cost. Minimum coverage, or liability insurance, is enough to meet legal requirements, but parents might feel uncomfortable with minimum insurance that will not cover the teen's expenses in an accident. Compare the coverage available for different price ranges and different deductible amounts.

    • 4). Look at the age at which the company lowers premiums. The usual age is around 25 years old, but insurance companies often grant lower insurance premiums to females at younger ages because statistics show they get in fewer accidents than male drivers.

    • 5). Purchase the insurance that is most affordable and still has all of the necessary coverage. Avoid insurance that is expensive and has very few available discounts.
