Athlete Team Building Activities

    Eating Right

    • One of the oldest traditions is a pregame meal, because in theory they are supposed to bring a team together. However, if you're not careful, it can backfire. Players might spread over several tables and eat within their cliques. A smart coach will look for ways to shake up the eating assignments so players get to know all of their teammates -- not just hang with their best friends.

    Building Through Pain

    • A popular way for a coach to build camaraderie is through pushing the limits of physical endurance for a team. That might means extra sprints, laborious drills or grueling workouts all aimed at the idea that the team is doing these drills together. That accentuates the idea that the players share a common bond. However, make sure all of the players are going through these drills properly -- that no single player is dogging his responsibility -- and make sure not to work them to the point of excessive fatigue or injury.

    Mottos To Motivate

    • Find a theme for the season and stick to it. Make that the overarching goal of every practice and every session together. It could be as easy simple as beating one particular team or as tough as winning a title. Getting all of the players on board for that goal is key. Hang up banners in the locker room stating that goal. Make shirts that the players can wear to promote that goal. Making it part of everyday life for the team and it will bring them together.

    Off-Field Activities

    • Many teams will start prayer groups or service-oriented tasks such as cleaning up a neighborhood to help build team unity. The idea is that by finding a common denominator outside of the sport will help a team grow together as one.
