In short, having an office desk means that someone is serious about getting something done. You could spend hundreds or thousands of dollars if you purchase a desk, for someone who can build their own custom desk can save money. This will allow you to customize the design of your office desk to meet your needs. Building an office desk could be a quick and easy project that does not require much in the way of carpentry skills or tools. In terms of purchasing the materials needed, the suppliers are equipped to assist and can even provide some helpful suggestions on ways to quickly assemble the desk. Once you decide on the design of the desk woodworking plans you are going to use you have several options when you pick your grade of materials.

A very small list of materials and tools is needed to build your office desk including, pencil, drill, long screws, caulk or liquid nails; a 6' counter top or plain door, one 2-door file cabinet and a strip of 1" x 2" which should be the same length as the desk top's depth.

The first step is to design a desk woodworking plan - ideally with a large desk top. The next would be to ensure that one end is secured to the wall and the other end should rest on top of a 2-door filing cabinet. You will need to purchase a two drawer filing cabinet for this. This is to hold up one end of the desk in addition to having some file storage.

Going to a kitchen remodeling section of any home improvement store to buy a laminated countertop for the desk would be the next step. There is a variety of counter tops in the home improvement section that should fit one's budget with the recommendation of purchasing a pre-fabricated 6' countertop. For a very simple and nice looking alternative you may want to use a plain interior door. Make sure that the file cabinet goes well with the edges of the counter if one intends to add a wood trim.

Once the desired location has been chosen, place the filing cabinet beside the wall. Use the top of the filing cabinet as your starting point when you draw the line on the wall for placing your 1"x2" wood ledger board for your back support. Make certain that the top of the wood strip runs along the drawn line and then secure it by drilling in the screws which holds one end of the office desk.

To finish off, one end of the desk should rest on the wood strip and the other on the filing cabinet. With the help of double sided tape or liquid nails, secure the desk top to the wood strip along with the filing cabinet.
