How to Mount a Bracket for an Over-the-Range Microwave
Things You'll Need
Instructions
1Turn on a stud finder, and slide it across the wall to find the vertical studs over the range on the wall. Probe the wall with a nail to find the center of each stud. Mark the center of the studs with a carpenter's pencil.
2
Stretch a measuring tape horizontally on the back wall where the microwave installs. Place a mark with a carpenter's pencil at the 15-inch mark on the measuring tape. Place a ruler vertically lining up on the mark, and draw a vertical line from the top of the wall opening to the bottom of the cabinets on each side. This is the centerline of the microwave mounting area.
3
Place the mounting bracket on the wall with the open side facing up. Align the center notches in the bottom of the mounting plate with the vertical centerline on the wall.
4
Hold the bracket in place, and drill a hole in the left and right screw holes through the bracket and into the wall. Drill a hole in the bottom of the bracket so that it is on the line you marked for a stud. Drill a hole in another screw hole area on the bottom of the bracket.
5
Place one wood screw in the mounting bracket through the stud. Tighten it clockwise with a drill. Insert a toggle bolt into each of the remaining three holes through the mounting bracket. Tighten the toggle bolts clockwise.
