You Kitchen Can Be Junk Free - My Own Steps
Devoid of certain things a kitchen will not truly be a kitchen. You will find obligatory lists of knives, forks, spoons and pots. Weather you receive them as gifts or not, just about every kitchen definitely will end up accumulating some unique kitchen gadgets. Some guaranteed methods to chop and cube veg so efficiently and easily, you would probably never need to have a cutting board again, I gladly bought them from the comfort of my couch. Now I detest infomercial's. Into my mid thirties I've found I've so much kitchen equipment, quite a few of which I have never used since I ordered them imagining they were gonna be truly handy in college. The time has definitely come to spring clean the kitchen. Who knows if it goes well I might work on the rest of the place. I am going to use 3 rules. All they have to do is get 1 yes and they get to remain.
Did I use it this month? Could I earn money with it? Is it a present?
The actual hope is simply that they might fill up their trucks with my unwanted kitchen gadgets, so I don't have to make such a big good will journey. You bet I know i'm an evil genius bahahaha. The old drinking games who've ended up gathering dust will more than likely make an appearance at some stage, making me think I should bin all of them right now.
That makes 5 boxes out from my kitchen. Three boxes of dinner & silver ware, plus a box of drinking games that will be going back to college with my nephew. The remainder of the boxes are packed with the rubbish that should never belong in a kitchen, or should I say helpful and unique kitchen gadgets. My kitchen finally looks like the day I moved in, and it merely took two days.
That's it the evening is all planned, we will sip cocktails and politely reminisce about the hijinx we got up to in college. I guess I was living in a dream land if I thought that was how the night would go. What is it they say about the best made plans. Even though I thought the days of the "beast" were done and dusted after all the years since graduating. Think frank the tank in Old Skool. I was surprised that it took 30 minutes to get the drinking games rolling. The night quickly fell into a sloppy mess of beer pong and shot roulette. Take note that no 30 year old should ever attempt these activities, I really don't remember having hangovers like this back in the day.
So what made the cut? The essentials so to speak.
I kept 1 set of dinner and silver ware for when I entertain next. It wont be in a hurry that I can guarantee. I also kept a couple sets for every day use. As far as bigger items goes I kept a bunch of pots and pans, a food processor and hand blender that I use regularly to make protein shakes.
Some things you can never have enough are glassware and tupperware. I have to admit I didn't even go through any of them,. I probably should have, at least to get rid of the ones with out lids or were badly stained, everyone has a fetish and mine is nasty old tupperware. Don't judge me.
What didn't make it and why (bigger items only) Juicer (while a great idea, and works really well, I just never used it.) Salad spinner ( just took up too much room, and I really cant remember the last time I ever used it.) 3-4 sets of mismatched dinnerware ( never used them as they didn't look good, a great donation to my nephew who wont care, his socks never match.) All the drinking games ( just not up to it any more, again another great donation to my nephew) 2nd George foreman grill, I bought to take on a cabin vacation one year ( still in the box, unused to small for daily use.) Panini Sandwich maker ( what the heck was I thinking, it literally was the size of a small Caribbean country. Used once the day I bought it.
No more buying junk from TV or things that fix a problem that just doesn't exist. The kitchen looks great and I intend on keeping it that way.
