- 1). Talk your way out of it. Try to tell the officer giving you the ticket your side of the story. Officers usually have discretion whether to issue the ticket or just a warning. If you have a reasonable excuse as to why you were speeding, you may get off with just a warning.
- 2). Ask for the officer's notes on the back of the ticket and try to find inaccuracies. This may help your case if the information undermines the officer's credibility.
- 3). Postpone the trial. Find out if the officer will have a day off or will be on vacation in the near future and try to postpone the trial date until then. If the officer who gave you a ticket does not show up for your court date, there is no evidence against you and the court will dismiss your case.
- 4). Hire someone to fight the ticket if the costs (from $200 to $500) of hiring a traffic ticket specialist to represent you will justify the savings in your insurance premiums as well as the fines and court costs.
- 5). Negotiate a plea deal with the prosecuting attorney if you were in violation of the law.
- 6). Ask the judge for traffic school if the officer who gave you a ticket shows up for the court date, you were speeding and you can find no technicality to get the ticket dismissed.
