Creating the Icon File

• 1). Create your image file using your image editing software capable of saving an ICO file.
  
  
• 2). Set your image size to be either 16-by-16 pixels or 32-by-32 pixels. The larger file will scale down when displayed in the address bar.
  
  
• 3). Set your image's color depth to use a 256-color palette.
  
  
• 4). Create your image and save the finished product as "favicon.ico."
  
  

Transferring the File to Your Website

• 1). Connect to your Web server using your traditional login method.
  
  
• 2). Transfer your favicon.ico file to the root directory of the website for which it was created.
  
  
• 3). Connect to your website using your preferred Web browser and verify the address bar icon is displaying to your satisfaction.
