Obtain the current odometer reading from the vehicle by physically reading the odometer.

    • 2). Write the current odometer reading in the appropriate space on the back of the title. Check the box on the title to designate whether the mileage is "A-actual mileage shown", "NA-not actual mileage shown" (replaced or broken odometer), or "X-mileage exceeds mechanical limits". If the vehicle is 10 or more years old, is rated by the manufacturer with a carrying capacity of 4,000 lbs. or more, or weighs more than 16,000 lbs. then it is not necessary to designate "A", "NA" or "X" regarding the mileage.

    • 3). Write the date of sale in the correct space on the back of the title and sign the title in the designated space.

    • 4). Give the buyer a completed Application for Texas Certificate of Title that is signed and dated by you. The application is available on the Texas Department of Transportation website.
