Indicators That Your Ac Unit Needs Help

102 30
Hot summer weather is coming up sooner than you think and now is the time to make sure that your air conditioner is in good working order. Having a service checkup to get your unit ready to work this summer is always a good idea as you can make sure that your air conditioner is working before the summer rush starts. Maintenance, of course, is always better than waiting until a problem develops.

Sometimes, however, regardless of whether you keep your unit maintained or not, a problem will develop. When this happens, you may end up in a very warm house with an air conditioner that isnt working. You might also end up being able to keep your house cool but paying a lot more for the privilege of doing so as your AC unit works overtime to lower temperatures although it is broken.

To make sure that your unit is functioning optimally and that it doesnt have a problem that prevents it from working right, there are certain key signs and symptoms to be aware of. When you see any of these signs or symptoms, this is a good indicator that your AC unit is in need of some help.

Signs Your HVAC Needs Help

Your air conditioner will let you know when it is sick, just like you get symptoms like coughs or sneezes when you have a cold. So, what are some of the symptoms that your AC unit will exhibit when it needs help? Here are a few:

An odd smell. If the air that is coming out of your air vents smells bad when your air conditioner is running, this could indicate a lot of different problems. In the simplest of cases, you may just need a new air filter. In other situations, however, you might have a dead animal that is starting to decay inside of your air conditioner, or you may have mold in your air conditioner because the unit is plugged. A burned odor, or a smoky odor, on the other hand, can be a sign that there is a wiring problem with your unit.
Odd sounds. While it is normal to hear your air conditioner running, it is not normal to hear grinding or clunking sounds. Screeches, hisses and squealing sounds are also indicators that something is wrong with your unit. The component in your unit that is causing the bad sounds will need to be replaced if it has failed, and you should turn your unit off right away until it can be checked by a professional to make sure you do not do damage to your furniture.
Uneven temperatures or warm air. If your air conditioner is not consistently producing cold air and keeping your room at the temperature that your thermostat is set for, this can be a big indicator of a problem. Youll want to get this corrected right away too as you are wasting money trying to use a broken air conditioner to cool a room.

In any case, when you suspect trouble, you should call in a professional to diagnose the problem in order to protect the integrity of your unit and to avoid a huge power bill or a hot house.
