Foods Containing No Carbs
- Fresh fish, such as trout, salmon, sardines and tuna are naturally free of carbohydrates. Fish should be prepared without breading or deep-frying to keep from adding carbohydrates.
- Chicken, turkey, duck and goose meat generally do not contain carbohydrates. Breast meat and drumsticks are the best choices for carb-free meat. Gizzards and giblets contain about 1 carbohydrate per three ounces.
- Shrimp, Alaskan king crab, mussels, crayfish and lobster do not contain carbohydrates. Oysters and clams contain less than five grams of carbohydrates per three ounces.
- Eggs are a versatile protein source with very little carbohydrate content. Scrambling, poaching, hard-boiling and frying eggs will not alter the carbohydrate content and allows for variety in a no-carb diet.
- Generally, red meat is high in protein and does not contain carbohydrates. Beef, pork and lamb are carbohydrate-free selections. Processed meats such as ham and bacon may contain sugar, which will add carbohydrates.
