Ladies Leather Jackets And Their Importance

102 1
Human beings attach meanings to everything. Every single object in this universe, every single word, gesture and symbol has been assigned some significance and a meaning by us. But why do we do so? The world around is so exotic, varied and unknown to us, we needed to understand it and to do so, we assigned meanings to it. Moreover, our sentiments and emotions result in us making connection with things, with people, with places and etcetera. As a result, things gain significance. A seemingly insignificant object like a whistle might carry infinite emotional value for a person. Same concept applies to clothes like ladies leather jackets.
Clothing is no longer a thing of necessity. It is not merely to cover ones body or to protect it from the weather etc. No, now clothing has become an extremely important entity. The ladies leather jacket for example, is not a simple jacket. In terms of history, women have always worn flowing, loose, feminine gowns in some version or another. But with the Industrial revolution of the 1800s, clothing began altering as women started working jobs. Short hair, raise skirts, bared arms, such styles started emerging. This wasnt about immodesty. This was so much more. These changes in trends were about freedom. This was in essence the women liberation front. Women had the right to wear clothing they liked and were comfortable in. Ladies leather jackets were part of this phenomenon. This discussion on the significance of clothing is incomplete without the mention of Coco Chanel. A ladies leather jacket was amongst the many revolutionary fashion she either introduced or promoted. She started off with making hats and then progressed to clothing. She would use materials formerly restricted to mens clothing to make outfits and dresses for women. The early twentieth century saw some designer introduce pant suits for women. While the women then did not take to this form of style, the seed had been sown. We had Chanel producing boyish dresses and promoting the short hair (bob cut) while women were wearing trousers and overall in factories where they worked. Ladies leather jackets were not that far away. The ball had started rolling and the ladies leather jacket was one of the many new looks women were adopting. They rejected the norm of selective clothing for genders. Ants were for both and so were jackets made of leather. This annihilation of gender-based clothing was not about clothing. It was about everything. Women were now working, voting and becoming independent. They told the world they had rights and were not inferior to anyone. They were free creatures and would do as they thought right and no other human had any right to dictate that.
The ladies leather jackets represented this thinking and sense of freedom. Leather is one of the oldest materials used to make clothing and when jackets were made from it, they were worn by military personnel and the alpha males. Thus, the ladies leather jacket came to represent that connotation of rebellion and freedom. And to this day, those connotations have remained.
