    • 1). Insert your Windows Vista Ultimate upgrade disk into your computer's optical drive. This brings up the "Install Windows" screen on your computer. You can purchase the upgrade disk from any software retailer that sells Windows Vista products.

    • 2). Click on "Install Now" to confirm that you want to install the Vista Ultimate upgrade.

    • 3). Choose that you want to check for updates on the "Get important updates for installation" screen. This is important because you may need a Windows update or security patch for the new operating system. You need to be connected to the Internet to check for updates.

    • 4). Find your 25-character product key by looking on the interior of the plastic case that holds the installation disk. Enter the product key when prompted.

    • 5). Read and accept the license terms.

    • 6). Select "Upgrade" on the "Which type of installation do you want?" screen to do an upgrade instead of clean install.

    • 7). Finish with the installation wizard by confirming the on-screen prompt where you want the upgrade installed, which is typically the default "C:" drive selection. Watch the progress bar on the screen to view the installation progress. Click "Finish" when the on-screen prompt appears to let you know the installation is complete.
