It"s Time to Quit the Rat Race and Join the Snail Race

103 9
Ever since capitalism was invented there has been that constant struggle to compete with our fellow man(or woman) to have more than they do.
We're always looking at what the next guy has so we can have something that's bigger and better.
We get up in the morning thinking that if we leave home a little earlier we can beat the traffic and get there before everyone else and get more work done.
Trouble is everyone else had the same idea.
So instead of getting to work earlier we all end up stuck behind each other in traffic yelling, blowing the horn, cutting each other off, creating road rage and getting into accidents.
And we'll go through the whole thing again tomorrow, just as we did yesterday.
That's the Rat Race.
Have you ever wondered how wonderful it would be if you didn't have to set that alarm clock? Ever wished you could just spend the days that you would normally work and just stroll through your neighborhood park or go for a walk around town without a care in the world? How about just taking a scenic drive to wherever the road leads? You might just feel like sitting under a tree or on a park bench in the shade enjoying a nice good book or just watch life go by.
That's what I refer to as The Snail Race.
The kind of life where everyday is like a two-week vacation.
When you're in the snail race you notice a lot of things that you wouldn't normally pay attention to during the weekend or in that road rage filled commute to work.
When the weekend comes, most people don't have time to notice anything.
There's always something to do with the kids, the grass needs to be cut, there's a big pile of laundry to do, you have to buy groceries, and the house is a mess.
In the road rage filled commute, you're busy yelling at the guy who just cut you off or the one who doesn't want to let you into the lane before you reach the double line where the cop is waiting to give you a ticket.
You don't have time to appreciate the wonderful surroundings you might be in.
Don't let life pass you by.
You're only here for a limited amount of time.
Throw out the alarm clock or better yet give it to a neighbor.
Let them enjoy the rat race.
You spend some time with your family.
Stop and smell the roses(it's a cliché, I know).
Take the time to look after yourself and your loved ones and just get out and enjoy life.
Let the grass grow and let the laundry pile up.
You'll get to them.
Eventually.
