- 1). Tie the jig head of appropriate weight to the tag end of the fishing line. The weight will vary due to the rod and reel you are using as well as the conditions and depth of the water you are fishing.
- 2). Starting at the head of the minnow, slide the hook into the minnow from the nose and curve the hook as you are inserting it so that the hook comes out of the bottom of the minnow and the head is placed appropriately.
- 3). Cast the minnow into the water and begin retrieval. When reeling the minnow in reel at a moderate pace and give the tip of the rod a slight twitch every few seconds. This will replicate the motion of a live minnow.
- 4). Once you feel a fish strike the line, set the hook and retrieve the fish as you normally would.
