Baking

• Children love to go to their grandparents' house and bake cookies, cakes, muffins, pies and anything else they are allowed to help with. This is a fun and inexpensive activity that you can do together. It is also a time to begin teaching the grand-kids how to make any secret recipes you have, or just how properly to make any dish that is a hit with your family. Your grandchildren are never too young to learn your favorite recipes.
  
  

Old Movie Night

• If you still have old VHS tapes of their parents when they were children, your grandchildren may love to watch these. Many children enjoy seeing what their parents looked like, dressed like and behaved like when they were younger. You can laugh at old memories together and tell your grandkids stories about what was going on when the home movies were shot. If you run out of these, watch your favorite VHS movies with grandchildren, as they've probably only watched movies on DVD before, so this will be fun and different for them. If your grandchildren don't enjoy home movies but you still want to try this activity, prepare their favorite snacks as one incentive to lure them to the television set.
  
  

Garage Sales

• If you like to look for bargains, teach your grandchildren to do the same. Invite them for a sleepover at your house on a Friday night, then get up early on Saturday morning and go to yard sales together. Give them a small allowance that they can spend on good deals they find. You will have a great time looking for bargains with your grandchildren, and it will be fun to see what treasures they choose to purchase.
  
  

The Library

• Take your grandchildren to the library and help them choose books that they might enjoy reading. The two of you can sit and read books together. When you're finished, allow them to check out a few books to take home and read. Many libraries have story groups for young children to join; during sessions with these groups, they sit with other children and listen to a library staff member read a book to them. Check your local library's schedule of events to see if this kind of program is offered, as it is a fun activity for them.
