How to Block an Unknown Caller
- 1). Sign up for an anonymous call rejection service through your home phone service. To activate the service, dial "*77" from your home phone. This will alert the caller that you do not accept anonymous calls. To disable the service, dial "*87."
- 2). Add a call screening service to your home phone plan. Configure the call screen feature to block all unknown or private numbers. Once enabled, callers will hear a message asking them to identify themselves or the company they are calling from.
- 3). Add your home phone number to the national "Do Not Call" registry. This will prevent most telemarketers from calling your home phone. (See Resources.)
- 1). Read your cell phone user manual and check if they there is a feature to block unknown calls from coming through on your phone. Most smart phones have this option.
- 2). Call your wireless carrier and inquire about services available to restrict unknown callers. Be aware that you maybe charged a monthly fee to subscribe to the service.
- 3). Add your cell phone number to the national "Do Not Call" registry. This will prevent most telemarketers from calling your mobile phone. (See Resources.)
