Did you hear? There is a new invention that revolutionized surgery! It's called the Medibot.
The Medibot, allows surgeons to stop making incisions in the patient's body, and instead, the surgeons use a computer console.
This creates greater accuracy during surgery and more cancerous cells can be removed than before.
There are many different kinds of Medibots, such as the HeartLander and the ViRob.
The HeartLander works in conjunction with a small camera can be swallowed in a capsule.
The camera can record everything inside the body until it gets to the heart.
This camera is used as reconnaissance for the surgeons to see the interior of the body and the blood stream, in preparation for heart surgery.
Then, there is a robot called the HeartLander that enters the small incision (about the size of a keyhole) that the surgeons create.
The HeartLander has little feet that can be remotely controlled by a joystick, which allows various functions.
One of these functions is to scrape heart tissue for analysis.
Another function is to insert genes or cells into the heart to help it heal after a heart attack as well as help rebuild muscle as well as blood vessels.
This approach works well on pigs.
There are many ideas for the functions of the HeartLander, but they are still being dreamt.
The ViRob is similar to the HeartLander in that it has a camera, although it cannot resist the blood flow as the HeartLander, the ViRob works in the brain.
The ViRob drains excess fluid in the brain and needs to be replaced every five to ten years.
It can also help with hearing by taking the cochlear implants (electrodes trying to stimulate the auditory nerve) deeper into the ear, thus enabling patients to hear more and better.
