Pancreatic and Biliary Endoscopy
Pancreatic and Biliary Endoscopy
The 8th International Symposium on Pancreatic and Biliary Endoscopy was held at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (CSMC) in Los Angeles, California, on January 26-28, 2001. Two of the 3 course directors from major endoscopy centers in Europe and North America -- Dr. David Carr-Locke of Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, and Dr. Simon Lo of CSMC -- were in attendance. This year's program included carefully focused didactic sessions and 11 hours of live endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) and endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) procedure demonstrations via closed-circuit video transmission.
The didactic program comprised meet-the-professor sessions, lectures, and case discussions with the experts. The guest faculty were drawn internationally and included Dr. Horst Neuhaus of Düsseldorf, Germany; Dr. Paulo Sakai of São Paulo, Brazil; and Dr. Robert Hawes of Charleston, South Carolina. The California-based physician faculty included Dr. Rudolph Bedford and Dr. David Lu of UCLA; Dr. Kenneth Binmoeller of California Pacific Medical Center; Dr. Edward Phillips, Dr. Steven Colquhoun, Dr. Stephan Targan, and Dr. Theodore Stein of CSMC; Dr. Eric Lee and Dr. Viktor Eysselein of Harbor-UCLA Medical Center; Dr. Jerome Cohen and Dr. James Sattler of Torrance Memorial Medical Center (TMMC); Dr. Binesh Batra and Dr. Peter Sender of Southern California Kaiser Permanente Medical Group; and Dr. Robert Zipser of San Dimas Community Hospital. The nurse faculty included Loretta So, RN, of UCLA; Yvonne Min, RN, Jan Daniels, RN, and Natalie Fulton, RN, of CSMC; Heather Shay, RN, and Rose Yu-Ming Chang, RN, of TMMC.
With registration exceeding the meeting capacity of 250, this was one of the best-attended ERCP courses given in North America.
