Amazing Cardboard Box Costume Ideas
UP House Costume
Box: Cut off the flaps on the box so that you have extra material to create the roof pieces. tape these together to form the roof, and then cut a hole in the roof that leaves plenty of room for head movement. Paint the box to match the UP house. Remember, this costume doesn't have to be movie accurate to be effective. The UP house has a grey roof, with green, blue, salmon, and yellow on the front of the house.
Balloons: Tie at least 5 helium balloons together. Cut two small holes in the top of the box roof, at least an inch apart. Thread the balloon strings through these two holes to attach the balloons to the house.
Pants: The pants don't matter too much on this one, but I have seen cloud pajamas worn, which is a cool effect.
Censored Sim Costume
This cheeky Sims costume could be a hit among gamer friends.
Censored Body: Use a large piece of cardboard and paint squares of varying nude colors all over one side. Measure out the squares first for a clean, effective look.
Create the Sims diamond above your head:
Minecraft Box Costumes
Minecraft Box Head: Minecraft costumes are easy to create out of boxes because they are already so, well... boxy. You could either print out these Minecraft faces or start mixing paint and making squares.
Pickaxe: The Minecraft pickaxe prop can be made on the cheap using foam core board.
Clothes: This one is all focused on the box mask, so dark clothes will work.
Lego Cardboard Box Costume
Lego Body: The easiest way to make this costume is to use a cardboard box and red Solo cups.
Cut holes in the box that you can push the Solo cups through, but keep the holes small enough so that the lip of the cup can't pass through. Tape each cup to the inside of the box using duct tape. Once you have six cups firmly in place, spray paint the entire box. Cut head and arm holes and cut out the bottom of the box.
The Hat: Using a small, square box, attach cups and paint as described above. In the bottom of the box, cut a hole the size of the child's head, then line the hole with masking tape so that the rough edges of the hole don't bother the child's skin. Punch 2 holes at least 1/2" from the head hole and loop in elastic to create a band that will hold on the hat.
Wine Box Costume
This box of wine really works, able to dispense wine into cups, or, okay, your buddy's mouth. This Instructables design even includes full measurements and printable graphics to paste onto the box.
YooHoo Box Costume
Box: This YooHoo Box costume would require yellow, brown, red, and white paint. I suggest printing out the 'YooHoo' label to stick onto the front.
Straw Hat: For the straw hat, use a piece of large carboard curved to the size the child's head, then taped together into a tube. Punch holes in opposite sides of the tub end and attach a sting of elastic to keep the straw in place.
Face: Use a makeup type of face paint to create red and white stripes down the face to match the straw after the straw is in place.
Boots: Yellow rain boots or even yellow Crocs will work.
This Cabbage Patch Kid costume is great for a kid that is traveling in a stroller during Trick-Or-Treat.
Box: Cut the front out of a large box and paint as shown. The back of the box should be cut off completely. Experiment with fitting the box on your stroller to determine where you will need to cut slits and holes to fit the seat.
Background: Cover the stroller upholstery with green cloth to simulate the back of a Cabbage Patch box.
Wig: Create a Yarn Wig either by crocheting or threading a beanie with yarn.
A Chinese takeout box costume can be constructed easily from any box, though one that is already white will save you some paint.
You'll need to get creative with red paint on the outside, but that should be the most difficult part of the costume. A chopstick headband can be created by wrapping the middle of the chopsticks together with pipe cleaners, then attaching the loose ends to a headband.

Create the Sims diamond above your head:
- Find a couple of pyramid-shaped Styrofoam pieces at your local craft store, typically in the floral section. If they don't have that particular shape, you can also shave down rectangular pieces to a point with a rough-grain sandpaper.
- Drive craft wire into the bottom of the Styrofoam pyramid and wrap the end of the wire around the middle of a headband.
