How to Change the Belt in a Hoover Vacuum Elite Supreme
- 1). Unplug the Hoover Elite Supreme power cord from the wall outlet. Lower the handle and turn the vacuum cleaner upside down. Remove the two screws securing the bottom plate to the vacuum cleaner with a Phillips screwdriver.
- 2). Insert the tip of a flat-head screwdriver into the tab slots on front of the securing screw holes. Press the tab down in each slot with the screwdriver. Lift the back of the bottom plate up and pull the bottom plate straight off the vacuum.
- 3). Lift the brush roll straight out of the vacuum with your fingers. Slide the end of the brush roll out of the belt, if the belt is still intact. Find the four slots that secure the tabs of the top cover. There is a slot beside each rear wheel and a slot beside each securing screw hole between the edge of the cover and the bottom of the vacuum.
- 4). Put the tip of the flat-head screwdriver into the slots by the rear wheel and push down to disengage the cover tabs. Insert the screwdriver into the front slots and push outward to release the tabs. Turn the vacuum cleaner right-side up and pull the control knob off the adjustment lever with your fingers. Grab the top cover at the bottom edges with your fingers and lift it off the vacuum.
- 5). Pull the belt off the motor shaft and turn the Hoover Elite Supreme upside down again. Place the new belt around the groove near the end of the brush roller. Insert the brush roller into the vacuum, pushing the belt through the belt slot in the vacuum. Position the bottom plate on the vacuum until the tabs lock into place. Secure with the two screws.
- 6). Turn the Hoover Elite Supreme right-side up and grasp the end of the belt with your fingers. Stretch the end of the belt and loop it over the motor shaft. This might require using both hands to stretch the new belt. Place the top cover over the vacuum and press down until all four tabs lock into place. Push the control knob back onto the adjustment lever.
